Maybri Kennels is situated in the town of Port Pirie, South Australia a little over 2 1/2 hours from Adelaide. We are new to breeding the Italian Greyhound although I have assisted my mother another breeder for some years.
We were established in 2002, and thoroughly enjoy the breed.
My husband and I would like to take this time to thank you for visiting our site.
The Italian Greyhound are and elegant breed with character and intelligence, they have very few health problems and are very low maintenance due to their very short coat. The Italians make very good pets as they adapt themselves to their owners lifestyle.
This elegant and graceful little greyhound in miniature has a long history as a favourite of royalty and pet of nobility. (even Cleopatra owned one of these delightful little creatures)
The Italian Greyhound has always been greatly prized for his beauty, diminutive size and sweet disposition. Although giving the impression of being fragile, the breed is actually very hardy. He enjoys exercise and outdoors activity. He moves with a characteristic high-stepping prance and remains playful long after puppyhood.

The History of the Italian Greyhound
Hounds similar to the Italian greyhound are believed to have originated in Egypt around 3,000 BC. Remains have been excavated from the tombs of the Pharaoh's in the valley of Kings at Luxor.
The middle ages saw the Italian greyhound in Southern Europe. Because of it’s popularity in Italy it became know as the Italian greyhound and reached the height of popularity in the 17th century. Often seen with their titled owners including, Mary Queen of Scots 1542-87, Princess Anne of Denmark 1574-1619, Charles 1 1600-49, Queen Victoria 1819-1901, these are just a few.
The Italian greyhound the smallest of the sight hounds or gazehounds ( dogs that hunt by sight ).
Italian greyhounds were first shown in England in 1860, in Australia in Sydney in 1868. The American kennel Club registered the first Italian greyhound in 1886.
The Italian Greyhound is unlike any other breed.
They are cat-like in the respect they enjoy sunbathing. Care should be taken that your IG does not become sun burnt or overheated.
A picnic style blanket and a chew toy set out in the warmth of the sunshine of your backyard is an IG’s idea of heaven.
The IG’s are creatures of comfort. If an occasional accident in the house is unacceptable to you the IG may not be the breed for you.
Some owners have resorted to the .use of a litter box. This is one breed that CAN be litter box trained ( like a cat ). The IG litter box is larger than the kitty type and is usually lined with news-papers. When the box is used, training is relatively easy and accidents are rare. Litter boxes are NOT necessary to successful training however.
The IG’s love to lounge on beds, preferably under the covers is a favorite past-time. Sharing the bed with you is always the best.
